8 hair extension facts
Let’s get this topic and its importance underway.. Microscopic scales on the hair can be great for opening and locking colour in then shutting down again to reflect light to lustrous degrees. But what’s going on when it comes to hair extensions? Hair feels like synthetic, doesn’t hold colour, this hair’s not natural. It’s horse hair!. Or even the holy cow. Just what is this hair? Heard it all before?. Right here and now let’s shun everything with the facts:
Fact 1: If the hair you’ve bought comes in a packet with a label on then it has been prepared and processed in an Asian factory. But I bought it in Italy! Where do you think the Italians got it? The Italian hair supply days were over when the 20th Century ended.
Fact 2: The cuticles have been partially removed at the factory. To what degree varies.
Fact 3: If it doesn’t melt then it’s not synthetic.
Fact 4: Human/synthetic combinations do exist in Asia.
Fact 5: If colour is removed by bleaching (to any degree) then it does not contain synthetic fibre.
Fact 6: Synthetic fibre is just that...fibre. It’s not hair. It will not lighten with bleach.
Fact 7: Manufacturing is underway in China to produce a fibre that more closely replicates human hair. When heated it will also smell like human hair. When it’s all said and done, plastic is plastic.
Fact 8: It is not horse or cow hair. Yes, it is human or yak or a combination of both. What’s a yak? An animal with a frizzy coarse hair-like tail and a fluffy under-belly.
